Help WWF protect animals in the wild

A world without orang-utans is unimaginable. After millions of years on earth, orang-utan populations are now endangered. The destruction of their rainforest habitat has pushed them closer to extinction - and they urgently need our help if they are to survive.

Orang-utans are the only great apes found in Asia and right now there are approximately 48,500 individuals left in the wild. Both the Bornean and Sumatran orang-utan have experienced sharp population declines over the past few decades.

With 60% of their diet consisting of fruit, protection of orang-utan habitat is vital. Sadly, the lowland forest habitats of these apes are disappearing quickly due to logging and deliberate burning to make way for agriculture and palm oil plantations.

Your adoption of Koyah will help WWF protect orang-utans in the wild through our campaign to stop habitat loss, hunting and illegal trade. Help us help them before it’s too late.

About Koyah the orang-utan

Koyah is a young male orang-utan, who lives in the Segama Forest Reserve in eastern Sabah, Borneo.

Koyah represents all the orang-utans we help.

All our orang-utan adopters 'adopt' Koyah so that we can share his ongoing story with you. We hope that by following Koyah's progress, you can experience the challenges and successes involved in conserving this most unique of great apes.
